Equestrian Therapy Aide
Job Descriptions:


The Equestrian Therapy Aide will assist the Equestrian Therapy Manager in the planning, organizing and conducting Equestrian Therapy and Recreational Riding activities. These activities may include equestrian awareness, therapeutic riding, recreational riding including use of the adapted wagon, and coordination of therapy services with Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. The following is a list of duties the incumbent is responsible for:


+ Assists with therapy treatment for individuals receiving services.


+ Assists with the integration of Equestrian Therapy with other therapy modalities.


+ Assists in the selection of Equestrian Therapy activities and methods.


+ Provides training/in-ervice orientation to other staff regarding proper therapy techniques.


+ Participates in the Interdisciplinary Team process as designated.


+ Assists with the grooming of the horses and upkeep of the stable.


+ Assist with the completion of any required paperwork.


+ Assists/participates in the provision of direct support to the individuals receiving services at the Adult Training Facility as assigned by the ATF Manager.


+ Completes other duties as assigned by their supervisor or ATF Manager.



Required Experience:


MUST HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AROUND HORSES.Must also possess an understanding and knowledge of horses and efficient stable management, as well as an understanding of mental retardation and physical disabilities. Must understand and follow oral or written instructions. Must be willing to take initiative and work unsupervised on occasion. Must possess good verbal and written skills necessary for communication with individuals, staff and to complete required paperwork.

Previous work experience in Equestrian Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Sports Therapy or experience in an area related to the field of developmental disabilities. On-the-job training will be provided by the Equestrian Therapy Manager on equestrian treatment techniques, methods and procedures. Must have Act 33 and Act 34 clearances. Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license.This position requires horse riding, stooping, standing, sitting, walking, lifting and/or carrying 50 pounds, twisting, seeing, hearing, and speaking.
